Terminal

Aether’s terminal is built on Alacritty’s terminal core. It is meant to sit comfortably next to a tmux and Neovim workflow.

  • The global terminal lives across every page (chat, agents, skills, settings). It starts in your workspace folder, or your home folder if none is open. Shells, tmux sessions and Neovim keep running when the drawer is closed or you change pages.
  • A project terminal is scoped to the current chat’s folder or worktree.

The drawer has a tab for each. Switching tabs keeps both shells and their scrollback.

Action macOS Linux
Toggle the terminal drawer Ctrl` Ctrl`
Open the global terminal page ⌘T CtrlT
Move focus between terminal and composer ⌘J CtrlJ

A terminal workspace holds one or more groups, shown as tabs. Each group is a tree of split panes.

Action macOS Linux
New group ⌘⇧` CtrlShift`
Split right ⌘\ CtrlShift5
Split down ⌘⇧\ CtrlAlt\
Close pane ⌘W CtrlShiftW
Next or previous pane ⌘⌥→ / ← Alt→ / ←
Next or previous group ⌘⇧] / [ CtrlPgDn / PgUp
Find in scrollback ⌘F CtrlShiftF
Clear ⌘K CtrlL
Copy, paste ⌘C, ⌘V CtrlShiftC, CtrlShiftV

Drag a divider to resize, double-click it to reset. In the docked drawer, the maximize button expands it to 75% of the window.

Inside a terminal the shell gets every key except the shortcuts above, so Tab, Esc and, on Linux, plain Ctrl keys go to your programs. Shells are started when you open them and closed when Aether quits; they are not restored after a restart.

Pick a terminal theme in Settings: Auto Catppuccin (follows the app’s light or dark mode), Catppuccin Mocha, Macchiato or Frappé, or Aether’s own palette. Tools that ship Catppuccin themes, like catppuccin/tmux and Neovim colorschemes, then match the terminal around them.
