Your first session

This walk-through assumes you have installed Aether and at least one agent CLI that is signed in.

A project is a folder. Open one from the sidebar or the command palette (⌘K on macOS, CtrlK on Linux). Aether remembers every project you add or chat in, and groups its chats and worktrees under it.

Press ⌘N for a new chat. The composer’s controls set, for this chat:

  • Provider: Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Pi, Antigravity, or OpenRouter for a direct chat.
  • Model: from the list the provider reports, or the CLI’s default.
  • Access: what the agent may do without asking. The modes come from the CLI, for example Ask, Auto-edit and Full access for Claude Code and OpenCode, or Read only and Full access for Pi.
  • Effort: passed to the CLI when it supports one.

Type a prompt and send it. Tool calls appear as rows you can expand. When the agent asks for approval, the card shows the full command or the real diff.

Changing the provider, model, access or effort restarts the CLI and resumes the same conversation.

You don’t have to wait for a turn to end. Type while the agent is running to steer the current turn or queue the next message. Esc in the composer stops generating.

Press CtrlG to write a long prompt in a full editor, and ⌘⇧M to dictate.

Arm New worktree in the composer before sending. On the first send Aether creates an aether/<slug> branch and folder from the prompt, and the chat runs there. You can also pick an existing worktree to share with another chat.

Open the pane’s layout menu from its header and choose Split right, then start another chat in the new pane. Move between panes with ⌘⌥ and an arrow key. Press Ctrl⌥L to cycle through tile layouts.

Press ⌘⇧G for the Changes panel: stage, unstage, read diffs, commit and push. The sidebar shows each chat’s branch, changed files and ahead or behind counts.
