Notes

Open Notes from the sidebar, the command palette, or AltN. The default folder is ~/notes, so an existing notes folder works without an import. Set the folder and editor in Settings > Tools > Notes.

  • Aether opens notes in the built-in editor, with Markdown preview and edit, save shortcuts, unsaved-change prompts and handling for files changed on disk.
  • Neovim / tmux opens a tab named notes in the global terminal and reuses the running Neovim server. Without tmux, Neovim runs directly in that tab. Set executable paths and the session or socket in Notes settings if needed.

A note’s context menu can open it in either editor, whatever the default.

  • The tree’s New note button, and the Notes header menu for Daily and Scratchpad notes.
  • The scope button switches between global notes and the current project’s projects/<name> folder.
  • The header menu also has documents, timestamped notes, credential notes, Last note, Templates, Archive, Trash, cleanup and Git sync.
  • Templates come from the .templates folder. Creating a document can use a named template.
  • ⌘P is Quick Open. ⌘⇧N searches all notes from any page. Search file names, or choose Grep (or type /s query) to search content. Arrow keys preview, Enter opens at the matching line.

Right-click a chat message or an editor selection and choose Save to note. The selected text is kept exactly and appended if the note already exists.

  • Delete moves notes to .trash. Restoring puts them back in their original folders.
  • Archive keeps their paths under archive.
  • Emptying the trash asks for confirmation.
  • Save unsaved notes before maintenance or before changing the notes folder.

Git sync is manual: stage, commit, then pull with rebase and push when an origin exists. It uses the notes repository’s own ignore rules and shows errors or conflicts without discarding local changes.
